In 1661, the commune of Saorge also participated financially in the building of the church, dedicated to Our Lady of Miracles. Located a stone's throw from the Mercantour, Saorge Monastery dominates the village as well as the Gorges de la Roya. It is now managed by the Centre des monuments nationaux (National monuments center).

Saorge is a wonderful medieval village perched high on a rock overlooking the magnificent Gorges de Saorge and the Vallée de la Roya; it's classed as one of the 40 most beautiful villages in France. It sits in the concave face of a steep mountainside, looking out as if from the seats of an amphitheatre. It was in a perfect defensive position.
